What To Wear for a Boudoir Shoot?

soft natural boudoir

If you’re wondering what to wear to your boudoir shoot, here’s a gentle guide to help you feel prepared, empowered, and most importantly—beautiful.

Start with intention

Before choosing your outfits, pause and ask yourself: What do I want this experience to feel like? Maybe it’s soft and soulful, bold and expressive, or a celebration of your body just as it is. Let that intention guide your wardrobe.

Comfort is key. The more comfortable and confident you feel, the more your light will shine through in every image. Choose pieces that align with how you want to feel—not how you think you’re “supposed” to look.

Below you can see the example of a steamy, hot photo shoot we’ve made with Paula.

And here more dreamy and soft feel we created with Martyna:

Lingerie

Lingerie is often the first thing that comes to mind with a boudoir.

It can be timeless and classic or more edgy and kinky. There are endless possibilities to choose from and match your style.

Whether you lean toward delicate lace bralettes, silky bodysuits, or romantic sets with soft details, the goal is to choose pieces that make you feel the most comfortable and beautiful. We’re here to create an art together and you’re the muse!

Bring a few options in different styles and tones. Pastels for softness, deep hues for drama, and neutrals for a clean and classic look. It’s better to stay away from anything that digs in or feels restrictive. You deserve to feel free and at ease.

Accessories

Accessories add personality and dimension to your shoot. Think soft stockings, vintage-inspired jewelry, or even a flower crown or silk ribbon in your hair. These elements can elevate the dreamy, ethereal vibe and add texture to your final images.

Like at the shoot we did with Mistique Monroe:

Simple heels, delicate anklets, or even bare feet on a cozy bed or draped chair can tell a story. Or not. You can go harder and try stuff like harnesses or BDSM accessories.

Like we got a bit creative and post-industrial and chose a factory as our location to get more of a queer and oniric look:

Layer up!

One of my favorite tools for creating romantic, storytelling images is layering. A sheer robe, an oversized knit sweater, or a gauzy wrap can add movement and mystery. These pieces create natural transitions during the session. From gently slipping off a robe to hugging a soft cardigan around your shoulders.

They’re also wonderful for easing into the shoot if you’re feeling a little shy at first (totally normal!).

Fabric selection

The fabrics you choose help shape the feeling of your photos. It can be materials that move with light, like chiffon, lace, silk, and mesh. These fabrics add softness, motion, and the right touch of elegance.

I suggest avoiding stiff materials, loud prints, or anything with logos. Instead, think timeless and tactile, pieces that feel good against your skin and photograph like a dream.

Get creative!

Boudoir doesn’t have to look a certain way. Want to wear your partner’s shirt, a cozy tee, or a flowing dress instead of lingerie? Perfect. Have a vintage slip, a meaningful scarf, or a piece from your heritage you’d like to include? Yes, please.

This shoot is a reflection of you. There’s beauty in your story, and we’re here to celebrate it. Artfully, authentically, and with heart.
